Now having a good old fashioned team talk on the best way to prepare ourselves for tomorrow.
It seems hard to believe we are actually here and about to start the walk.
We are now about to leave for SJPP ( that is pilgrim speak for St Jean PIer de Port)
Those of you who saw the film The Way starring Martin Sheen will recognise this as the beginning of The Way where he took the wrong turning,we have seen loads of people with Rucksacks, who look as lost and nervous as we do.
We spent some time in the most beautiful church where Malcolm and Jeremy lit candles in memory of our father and brother and Jeremy in memory of his parents,I lit one for Grant,we said prayers would you believe, to give us strength to finish the walk,it really was a most moving experience.
We have now got our Credencial del Peregrino so we are now officially pilgrims,we have to get it stamped every day to prove we have walked The Camino( we have a string of taxis laid on ,anything to beat the system!!)
Just enjoyed a fine Pizza and a nice glass of red.
We'll we are up tomorrow at 6am ,we have got an 8 hour walk ahead of us,we are reliably informed it is going to rain and uphill most of the way.
Today has been a wonderful start to our adventure,we have already met some lovely people and had a good laugh.
It is that this point that we would like to thank all the people that have supported and helped us getting to the start,we have been banging on about The Camino and our ailments for so long, boring everyone to sobs. Our thanks to you all.

PJ - Excellent first post! You've learned my lessons well :) Me and Li both laughed out loud at the bit about the taxis!!
ReplyDeleteLovely gesture lighting a candle for Grant. Li says that Krispy Kreme is looking pretty good right now!!
Just to echo what Greg said. Best of British and all that. Looking forward to following your exploits.
DeleteHi both. May god speed you both on your first day. Our thoughts are with you as you begin the wee walk. Lovely that you lit a candle for those are not with us I am sure they are watching. Funny old thing beer and red wine always goes with pizza Jackie and Susan x
