I am turning.
It took us about an hour to get out of the city, I must say the signs for The Camino are brilliant you have to go some to get lost, every 20 foot is one of these in the pavement to guide you out of the city.
Slowly but surely we made our way out ,mindful of the traffic.
It was good to see the hills again ,I took one last look back into Pamplona then it was head down and into the beautiful countryside again.
At last the sun was shining which really lifted our spirits, unlike the days before,we were not expecting to do much climbing in fact we only had one climb ahead of us. The terrain was different from the previous days ,rolling fields of wheat and the views were quite breathtaking in fact stunning.
We were beginning to notice more walkers today,we saw some old familiar faces from previous days,we were hearing tales of people turning back on that first treacherous day when the conditions were so bad.
.
We stopped at Geundulian for a well much needed drink and some food,we are beginning to realise the importance of taking any opportunity to fill our water bottles up as it is so easy to get dehydrated which I think I did yesterday.Note tap on wall, they are placed in the villages for thirsty travellers.
Everybody is always so friendly and up for a bit of banter, this Italian cycling The Camino was a super guy and we had a real laugh with him and a beer !! Even dogs do The Camino.
Signs guide us at every turning.
We left happy for a rest and prepared ourselves for the climb ahead .All along the ridge we were climbing up to where wind turbines as far as the eye could see.
When we got to the top the first real Camino landmark was upon us the metal figures of pilgrims ,I have seen pictures of them many times but to see them for real gave us a real lift.
After some some food water and sweets from yesterday we started to descend ,the going under foot was really tough loose rocks every where just waiting for you to twist your ankle,it is hard to describe the pain in your toes as you descend and your feet are pushed forward into your boots. Poor Anne was really suffering with blisters and problems with her feet.
We got to the bottom of the foothills and the terrain levelled off, again the views were lovely and the walking was easy thankfully. This sign proved we are making a dent in the walk,we have done over 100km
Village names that we had seen on maps when we were planning ,became a reality.
Through villages and the countryside we continued on.
Don't ask!!!
The last village we passed through.
We arrived at our hotel and as always it is get the washing done.
Sadly tonight is the last time we will be together as a team,we are going to do two legs tomorrow as we could only get a hotel,at the end of the second leg,we have had a great time with Richie Sharon and Anne and if we meet anyone else as nice as them we will be very lucky indeed, we have laughed so much the past 4 days and I am so pleased we all shared the moment when we saw the metal pilgrims.
Tomorrow is a huge day for us 27 miles we have to walk ,the most we have ever done is 22 miles and that is not carrying the weight we are now.
I have had a fantastic day full of laughter,I had another moment of doubting myself early on,but I managed to get over it,I am learning to live with constant pain in my legs and feet,I still cannot believe after all we have done and been through that we still have over 400 miles to go.
Distance covered 16 miles
Walking time 6 hours
60 miles covered
420 to go.
