Usual start to the day we met at 0600 and had breakfast then we were on our way,I must say I felt quite fresh, sadly it was not to last.
It was not long before we were back into the country and we came upon this sign, the end is nigh,I still cannot believe it!!
The walk was through beautiful Spainish countryside with sunken roads and magiical woods.
We had covered 10 miles by 1000 am,it was very humid and the walking was becoming quite draining.
By eleven we were all becoming exhausted, today was slowly becoming a real test,my feet began to feel like lead again .
I am not sure if it was because we knew the end of the walk was in sight but it became harder and harder agin for us all to go on.We are so near the end ,but it can get hard to focus on that fact when you are dog tired.
The only major town we passed through was Melide,we did not stop,by now each step was a real effort ,I decided to power ahead of everyone to try and lift myself ,I overtook countless people and found a seating area in the woods and waited for the team, sadly I felt worse for my efforts,we were all exhausted.
After 20 minutes we moved on we had 5 miles to go it might as well have been 15 as far as I was concerned.
It was time for a beer we needed to get out of the blistering sun.
Dog on a blog time ,this was the most enthusiastic dog I have come across .
We set of for Arzua.
As we passed through Ribadiso de Baixo we bumped into Cindy and stopped for a drink, within minutes Marttin was asleep.
We knew we had a real climb ahead of us to get to Arzua and whilst climbing up the hill a young woman overtook me which was a red rag to a bull,I took off after her in full flight despite being so tired,I beat her to the top by some margin I am pleased to say,why I did it I do not know.
I left the team as we entered the town and got a taxi to my hotel.
Wasted on me I here you say.
I got my washing done and hung it on the line to dry,it is now sadly pouring with rain with a thunder storm to match.Sadly someone has nicked a pair of my socks off the line ,which has really annoyed me as everything I have,I use and I have no back up.
I am off to meet the team for a drink and some food shortly.
Today has really taxed me again,I knew it would, thankfully tomorrow is only 12 miles which should only be four hours walking ,I laugh when I say only 12 miles because 6 months ago 12 miles seemed like a long long walk, now it is a very short walk indeed.
I have to say I am so tired,I think a mistake I have made is doing the blog,it takes so much of my time up in the evening, when I should be sleeping I think on average I am only getting 5 hours sleep a night.I know in the months to come I will be happy I have done it but the moment I can see the error of my ways.
Stats for today
Walked 18 miles.
Walking time 6 hours
Av speed 3 hours
Distance to go 24 miles.
Distance walked 460 miles.
Thankfully I am to have a lie in tomorrow we are meeting at 0830.

ReplyDeleteI agree with Soraya! Had you not done the blog all you would have is your memories! Just think of the cred / value when you have the blog turned into a hardback and it sits on your coffee table at home. I can picture it now, "Oh that old thing, well that was when I walked the Camino,.......let me tell you about it..........."
Dig deep old friend - you're on the vinegar stroke!!! (with apologies to any sensitive souls!)
Regards
Mike
It is getting quite emotional thinking of you and the moment Santiago homes into view, the final crawl into the cathedral and the defining moment knowing you have completed your Camino. Go PJ go, glide like an angel to your final step.
ReplyDeletelove to you from Paul & Asha
