Day off in Burgos

I slept very well last night got up at 8 which was a nice change, had a bath and whilst I was drying I caught a glimpse of myself in the mirror,in profile, not a pretty sight I will grant you at the best of times, but I noticed I have lost a lot of weight over the last 10 days, that stomach that had cost me 1000's  of pounds to produce was dropping away rapidly. Could I be turning into a lean mean walking monk, sorry I mean machine.

Went out to a local cafe for breakfast and had large croissant  and a glass of orange juice,if there was ever a recipe for indigestion this was it ,well it lived up to expectations and did not disappoint within 15 minutes all hell was letting loose in my stomach.

Decided to go to local super market to get toothpaste battery's cake nuts and banana so I was all prepared for tomorrow .

Dropped everything off at my room and it was time for some serious rubber necking .They certainly like their brass sculptures here.

So it was off to the cathedral and I will let the pictures speak for themselves.

The pictures cannot do it justice it was stunning I have never seen anything like it.

It is one of those places one just has to see, I kept thinking to myself again who funded this and how powerful and intimidating the church must have been to the pilgrims of old.I left the cathedral and just walked around taking photos.

I just cannot get over the sense of history here.

It was around 12 and my neck was getting stiff that I started to think about the 24 mile walk I was due for tomorrow,I knew what that  length of walk was going to do to my trotters and take out of me,so I decided to go back to the hotel get my walking boots on and got a taxi to 9 miles down The Camino and walked back ,I will get a taxi in the morning to where I was dropped off.It was so hot I watched walkers approaching me like the walking wounded from the Somme .

As usual poppies everywhere. Please note arrow on the wall on bottom photo,we would be lost without them.

I would imagine you are getting impatient for the blog of the dog moment, well here it is.

It was a pretty soulless walk back with not a lot to see, there is no doubt the landscape is changing and in a couple of days I will be on the plains.I had been walking for two and a half hours  and I was thirsty and hungry,I came upon this lovely hostelry, I ordered a rather fine beer and I spotted some tasty looking cheesy straws which I devoured with some gusto and relish, sadly I had not learnt from breakfast, within minutes I knew I had made another mistake and was fighting the acid that was trying to make a comeback.I seem to be living with indigestion all the time.

After 45 minutes I got back to the hotel took my boots off and fell asleep immediately. Then I got up and did some more necking I wanted to see the old castle that the French had held against Wellingtons armies in the peninsular war of 1812.

There is such a sense of history here.

Had a quick stroll into town for a beer and went to the main square this is such a vibrant place ,I just love the mothers meeting.

Well it has been a lovely hot day,in fact it was too hot when I was walking,so I am delight with my plans to get up early not only to get to my next destination as early as possible but to beat the noon day sun.

This has now become a mental test for me as well as a physicaI one.I hope I have come terms with being on my own now.

I have got the biggest incentive to finish as Richie our Australian chum has put on his blog they have own  The Camino Ashes as we have lost one of our team, I have pointed out that I am still batting and we are doing the walk in 33 days and the Aussies who are a two man team are  doing it in 41 days,I think we will let the crowd decide who wins if we get to the finish.I must point out at this stage I have already drawn two stages ahead of them. The Poms are in the lead RIchie.( he does read our blog).Come on England

I am pleased to say Jeremy is home safe and sound and it looks as if he has shin splints,We will return to do battle another day.

I will add today's stats on tomorrow.
