Day 14 Carrion de Los Condes to Ledigos

I went to the concert last night at the church it was laid on for pilgrims,it was a classical guitarist playing music from the 16th century he played beautifully and the acoustics were wonderful.

Turned round during the concert and to my delight the A team were behind me and after the concert I joined them for dinner. They invited me to walk with them and we agreed to set off at 0700 the  next morning as we had a long walk ahead of us,then it was off to bed .

Did not sleep well sadly, got up at 0600 ,caught a glimpse of myself again in the mirror or was I admiring myself, I am shedding pounds on a daily basis.

I have to thoroughly check the room before I leave because everything I have in my rucksack is essential,my most prized possession is my charger,if I loose that my iPod iPad camera and phone become useless to me.

We met as arranged at the pilgrims statue at 0700.

It was raining and a beautiful rainbow arced across the sky.

We had a quick cup of tea then set off.

We knew today was going to be a tough walk as it was over the plains with little to see of note just fields most of the way.

We set a blistering pace of 3.3 mph and soon arrived at Calzadilla del Paremo de Carrion, which was the first town we had seen for 10 miles.

It was time for food and a much needed drink.

The A team every day at 10 conduct a small religious service comprising of a hymn some reading of the psalms and prayers ,I asked them if I could join them,I was very moved especially when they said a prayer for Jeremy, thank you for that Peter your words were perfect and Jeremy would have been very touched.I was amazed to see passing pilgrims getting involved with the service. I will say it again these boys are America's finest. We were soon on the move again and I spent the afternoon talking with Mark of blister fame from a previous blog.

Mid afternoon we arrived at my hotel and had a beer, sadly it is here we part company and I will not have the pleasure of walking with them or seeing them again on The Camino as they have gone ahead I have got a short walk tomorrow and they are pushing on, plus I have 2 nights in Leon and they are not stopping. We had a quick beer before they went.Garrott asked me to send his love to his folks and hope they had a safe return home from The Smokey Mountains

So it was one last Buen Camino and they were gone and I was back on my own, there is no doubt walking with kindred spirit makes the task easier and the time flew by today.I checked in and had a walk around this tiny village in the middle of nowhere.

I came across these wine cellars carved into the side of a hill.

Time for dog on a blog.Tomorrow you are in for a real little star .

Had a very nice meal  in my hotel and I thought you would like to see the views from where I am staying

This really is a beautiful country and I am beginning to understand ,if you want to truly get to know a place walk it.

Today we definitely went through the halfway stage of the walk,so it is downhill for me from now on,I cannot believe that I have been walking for 14 days, I still have got 16 stages to go with some serious climbing to do,I am beginning to think I can do it.

I must apologise if you see any spelling mistakes ,I have not got my proof reader Jeremy with me and by the time I get round to doing the blog I am normally exhausted plus the fact I am virtually illiterate .

I am sad to be on my own again but it will not stop me,I am so looking forward to having a day off in 3 days,if   anyone has not seen the film The Way I highly recommend you see it as it is a great movie about The Camino starring Martin Sheen.

Stats for today

Walked 18.9 miles

Walking time 5.57

Average speed  3.2 mph.

  1. Great photos and commentary. Thanks for passing along Garrott's comments. Whether or not you cross paths again on the Camino or elsewhere, you have left a wonderful impression on him and his pals. All the best to you.
