Day 16 Bercianos to Villarente

Had a great dinner last night with Joe Grace Petra and two lovely Dutch people , a few bottles of wine was drunk. Most restaurants serve a 11euro pilgrims meal, which is three courses and a glass of wine.

Lurched off to bed at 2200.I had an early start in the morning as I was meeting Jason at the next village at  0745 as we were going to walk together plus I had a very long walk ahead of me.

I got up at 0515. and immediatley noticed I had a nasty pain in my left knee, which had not been there last night,I took a pain killer and hoped it would go away.

I was walking by 0550 ,it was still dark when I left.

It took me about 90 minutes to get to El Burgo Ranero.

We met had some breakfast then we were off. a Dutch lady call Mariet joined us.It was nice to be walking with a team again,

We stopped every hour for a break which is something Jeremy and I never did, I could  feel the difference it was making,

Walking on the plains is boring there is not a lot to see when you are walking between the towns.I could see The Pyrenees getting closer and closer and I knew in 4 days I was going to have to do battle with them.

Lindsey Jason's cousin caught up with us .

After what seemed an eternity we arrived at Reliegos and found a lovely Aurberge  as we entered the town.

We spent about an hour there,we had a fine meal and some nice red,I must say I could have spent the whole day sitting under that tree. Then we set off for Mansilla de las Mulas.

Time for another drink as we entered the town.

Alll too soon we had to leave for our final destination I was kean to get there as my leg was really playing up and we had already walked 18 miles. As we were leaving Mansilla I looked to my left and saw this just stunning.

Then we walked across the roman bridge.

When I saw this sign, I was really sad as if Jeremy had been with me ,we would have known this is the last city before the end of The Camino a real landmark,so near!!

After an hour or so we entered Villaventre another stunning bridge awaited us.

My goodness the Romans  had a go around here.Soon we arrived at our AlbergueI  felt exhausted,I had walked over 22 miles and all I wanted to do was get my boots off and tend to my knee.I had a quick shower,a drink something to eat ,and I am nearly ready for bed.

It has been a long day today ,I have to say I am completely exhausted,I am worried about my left knee and ankle,I am lucky I have got a day off in Leon,so I intend to set off early tomorrow to walk to Leon to give my body time to recover. It was been great walking with Jason Mariet and Lindsey it has made a long walk easier being in company.

I love this part of Spain, there is a surprise around every corner

Stats for today

Walked 21.90 miles

Walking time 7hrs 08 mins

Average speed 3.1 mph

201 miles to go.

I cannot believe that tomorrow I will have less than 200 miles to go.

I forgot to put on the stars of the show today dogs on a blog
